Around the World takes place via the three capes from West to East :

  • Cape Good Hope,
  • Cape Leeuwin,
  • Cape Horn.

The navigators will sail down the Atlantic Ocean, then a perilous crossing of the South Seas with first, the Indian Ocean and its seas and crossed the Pacific Ocean. Finally, its seafaring adventurers, ascend the Atlantic and the return will be welcomed by an enthusiastic and appreciative audience in Les Sables d'Olonne.

Our skippers will face climate elements including storms Bay of Biscay between Sables d'Olonne and Cape Finisterre to the trade but also to Cape Verde and the famous Black Pot in St. Helena, the nightmare of heavy rains synonymous browsers , winds and violent storms! .

After Ecuador, our browsers will dodge the Saint Helena anticyclone and headed for the Indian Ocean, in a damp and cold atmosphere with breaking seas and high winds ..
Then it's the Pacific Ocean to Cape Horn, where the weather is milder with a more stable wave but with a permanent danger to detect icebergs or growlers big to avoid collision! After passing Cape Horn, some relief to leave the danger zone and that is the ascent of the South Atlantic, with gale force winds and again the Pot Black. Then they sail over the North Atlantic and heading towards Les Sables d'Olonne by seeking westerly winds to return quickly to the Vendée Globe finish port: Port Olona Les Sables d'Olonne!


In 2016, the route will be shorter with the creation of an exclusion zone - preventing the skippers go down too far south to ensure their safety.

On Sunday, November 6, 2016, boats come out of the pontoons of Port Olona to skirt the channel and join the starting line off to Cayola.
