Its origin
Spira in LatinSpirulina (in Latin "spira") takes its name from its spiral shape. It is a blue or even green microalga.
There are many different species, but the two main food species are Spirulina (Arthrospira) maxima and Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis.
Spirulina is a cyanobacterium that has been present on Earth for 3.5 billion years and is at the origin of our Earth's atmosphere.
It has been eaten since ancient times, and thanks to its many virtues and nutritional benefits, it is one of the most complete foods on the planet.
