Saint Mathurin Church

Rue des Sables
85150 SAINT MATHURIN

The church built to Libaudière plans, was completed in 1905. Its belltower was added more than 20 years later, first one to be constructed out of concrete in the Vendée, and is 36 metres high. Two beautiful 18m² stained glass panels illuminate the transept. On 25th June 1949, cardinal Roncalli (who would become pope Jean XXIII), stopped there to pray on his way to the Sables d'Olonne sea festival. The church's luminosity is truly remarkable.
