Eric Fonteneau was born in 1954 in Cholet, France. He lives and works in Nantes.
Having completed his art studies at the University of Haute Bretagne in Rennes, he subsequently spent time working in France (Tours), Burkina Faso, New York and San Francisco.
He has experimented with numerous techniques for exploring his passion for drawing and geography.
Since the end of the 1980s he has exhibited extensively with galleries in France and abroad, as well as working with architects and fabricators to realize works in public spaces, architectural environments, and in nature.
Although the practice of drawing is at the heart of his work as an artist, Eric Fonteneau also has recourse to a large variety of means of expression such as collage, models, photography, cut glass and printing plates.
Conscious of the ideas used in (the) fabrication (process) and the quality of the materials used, Eric Fonteneau places importance on the tactile aspect of his work.
Touching the oeuvre is even essential to appreciate some of his exhibitions.
Thus visitors were invited to use their fingertips to decrypt the pieces presented at the exhibitions entitled “L’invention du monde” (Centre Georges Pompidou) and “Onde de pierre” (at the Crypt de Rosnay l’Hôpital).
