In his new album, Stress Killer, Léon Phal heads up a quintet formed in the purest hard bop tradition (tenor, trumpet, rhodes, double bass, drums) and explores the whole range of music that has filled his sleepless nights, from house to drum'n'bass to afrobeat,
drum'n'bass and afrobeat. A dance machine with a soul. The result of these confrontations between acoustic and electronic, jazz fervour and dancefloor fever, dreamy escapes and meticulous beats, is a salutary symbiosis of contagious energy and rare elegance.
Still searching. The right sound, the right grain to reach. To be heard. And finally, to reinterpret everything. No longer alone, but with the core group of musicians who make up the quintet. Connected by the same frequencies, responding to the same references, it was with them that the two previous albums were made, and with them too that 'Stress Killer' was built and recorded.
