CONFÉRENCE - VIVRE DANS UNE ÎLE AU XIXE SIÈCLE : L’ÎLE D’YEU

LES SABLES-D'OLONNE

About

Université Permanente conference.

By Jean-François Henry, historian of seafarers and specialist in the Île d'Yeu, where his ancestors were sea captains. He is the author of numerous works on his island.

Living on the Île d'Yeu in the 19th century meant that its inhabitants had to make the most of their limited autonomy, while at the same time forging very close links with the mainland ports.
It was an original lifestyle that brought together women, most of whom had never left their island, and sailors who sailed the world's seas.
