85100 LES SABLES-D'OLONNE
Funny, wry and terribly topical, this masterpiece of intelligence turns hatred of the Other and the tyranny of Virtue on their head.
In a small provincial town, a group of friends from good society get together for a "dinner of heads".
Each of them has to make the head of a major figure from the French Revolution. André Bitos, son of the people turned incorruptible and virtuous magistrate, is the guest of honour: he will play Robespierre. But it seems that the aim of the evening is not just to rewrite French history... This gang of notables in dinner jackets and wigs are about to embark on a game of massacre that is as cruel as it is jubilant.
"In my theatre, there's only one play where I've really enjoyed myself, and that's a play that caused a scandal at the time: Pauvre Bitos. That made me very happy! Jean Anouilh, television interview, 1973
