The lighthouse clock

Promenade Clemenceau
85100 LES SABLES D'OLONNE

The Clock was built by Maurice Durand, the town's architect in the 1950s, as part of the reconstruction of the Remblai after the Second World War.
This lighthouse clock was designed as an ornament for the promenade along the Grande Plage.
The architect decided to use a German blockhouse as a 'foundation' for this 8m high clock!
The clock was inaugurated on 1 July 1956.
Since then, it has become a favourite meeting place for the people of Sablais.
